Today we came across an interesting problem, we provisioned a license to a new employee for Microsoft Project Online Premium, this version of Microsoft Project comes with a desktop client download. The problem was that there is no download button! No matter where we went it just didn’t work! Well we found our answer, keep reading to get yours.

 

When you navigate to your installs (My Account > My Installs) you should see something similar below. (Unless you have the problem we had.)Microsoft Portal - My Installs

 

But our employee saw this:

It turns out, the problem was a simple toggle button. Lets take a look at the steps to provide this employee with a download.

Here are the steps we took to fix this issue:

  1. Login to Microsoft Admin Portal.

  2. Navigate to your active users.

  3. Find the user in the list that needs to have this fixed and select them.
  4. Click ‘Edit‘ inside ‘Product Licenses

  5. Expand ‘Project Online Premium‘ and toggle ‘Project Online Desktop Client‘.

  6. Return to your installs here.
  7. Select your version (32bit or 64bit) and click the green ‘Install Project‘ button.

  8. Wait for the download to finish then run it and follow the on screen instructions.

And that’s it! The employee now has Microsoft Project Online Premium Desktop Client.
